At Turrun Primary School, our aim is to develop confident and proficient mathematicians through a balanced approach by combining explicit instruction and open-ended investigations. Our daily lessons encompass key areas of the Victorian Curriculum, including Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics, and Probability. Our teaching and learning program focuses on strengthening the four proficiencies of Understanding, Fluency, Problem-Solving, and Reasoning which are essential to mathematical learning and thinking. Concepts are regularly reviewed to ensure students can consolidate and strengthen their knowledge and skills.
Students are encouraged to strengthen their reasoning skills, by exploring alternatives, and articulating their problem-solving strategies. This approach ensures they not only master mathematical concepts but also develop the ability to think flexibly.
Through a strong sense of community and a focus on personal growth, we aim to guide our students in developing the skills and values they need to succeed in life and contribute positively to the world around them.
