Wellbeing
Kindness, Care, Respect, and Personal Best
At Turrun Primary School, our school culture is built on the foundation of Kindness, Care, Respect, and Personal Best. We believe that living these values is key to fostering wellbeing for all members of our community. By embedding these values into everything we do, we create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes the social and emotional growth of students, staff, families, and the wider community.
Our wellbeing programs, such as Respectful Relationships, Play Is The Way, and The Zones of Regulation, are designed to help students develop essential skills in managing emotions, building empathy, and forming meaningful relationships. These programs are integral in shaping a school culture where everyone feels valued, understood, and connected.
We also understand that a thriving school community is built on strong, collaborative partnerships. By working closely with families and local organisations, we strengthen the network that supports our students’ learning and wellbeing. At the heart of this collaboration is our commitment to the wellbeing and professional growth of our staff. We ensure our team has the support they need to nurture positive relationships and create an environment where every individual can flourish.
Together, we are building a community where wellbeing is not just a program, but a way of life, and where everyone is encouraged and empowered to live our values every day.
Social and emotional learning
At Turrun Primary School, social and emotional learning (SEL) is at the heart of our approach to developing well-rounded, resilient students. Through programs like Respectful Relationships, Play Is the Way, and The Zones of Regulation, we provide students with the tools to understand and manage their emotions, build empathy, and navigate relationships with confidence. By integrating SEL into our daily practice, we foster a positive school culture where students feel supported, connected, and empowered to be their best selves, both inside and outside the classroom.
Relationships
At Turrun Primary School, we believe that building strong, caring relationships is the foundation of successful learning. We understand that some students may not be ready to learn right away, but by showing them kindness, respect, and care, we create a supportive environment where they feel valued. As we nurture these relationships, we know that love and connection today can open the door to learning and growth tomorrow. Every student is seen, heard, and supported, helping them to flourish both emotionally and academically.
Attendance
At Turrun Primary School, we place great importance on regular attendance and hold high expectations for all students to be at school every day. Consistent attendance is essential for success, helping students fully engage in their learning, strengthen their skills, and build lasting connections with peers and teachers.
We are committed to creating a warm, inclusive, and inspiring environment where students feel valued and excited to come to school. By working together with families, we can ensure that every student develops the habits and foundations needed to thrive both academically and personally. At Turrun, being here matters because every day counts.
Whole School Routines
At Turrum Primary School, we prioritise the establishment of clear, consistent routines to create a structured and supportive learning environment. By explicitly teaching and modelling these routines, we help students understand and internalise expected behaviours, allowing them to focus more effectively on their learning tasks. This approach not only minimizes classroom disruptions but also fosters a sense of security and predictability among students.
Our routines encompass various aspects of the school day, including entering the classroom, transitioning between activities, and participating in discussions. By consistently applying these routines, we reduce cognitive load on students, enabling them to engage more deeply with the curriculum. This systematic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices that highlight the importance of well-established routines in enhancing student engagement and academic outcomes.
